Description

For installations suffering from radio or electromagnetic interference, we recommend this special microphone cable. It is made from Gotham GAC-4 1 Star Quad microphone cable with double Reussen shielding, terminated using Neutrik NC3FXX-EMC and NC3MXX-EMC connectors.

These cables are 15 in length. (Custom lengths are available by special order.)

The cable jacket is black. The Neutrik XLR3 connectors are silver.

Gotham GAC-4 1 Features, according to the manufacturer:

The Star-Quad concept is known and recommended where the RF-rejection is the most important factor and where very long cable runs are needed. As we use each 2 conductors for low and high signal, we reduce the signal loss by 50% and due to the offset of the incoming RF-signal by the way the 4 conductors are twisted, the RF-rejection is over 130dB (25 kHz). The exclusive double shielding does its part of these features as well.

The Neutrik NC3xXX EMC connectors reduce susceptibility to cellphone and radio interference. According to Neutrik:

The design guarantees a continuous RF shield connection from the cable to the chassis connector housing via a circular capacitor around the cable shield. The circular capacitors act as high-pass filter with a cut-off frequency around 10 MHz.

An EMI suppression ferrite bead with 24 Ohm at 1 MHz between pin 1 and the cable screen provides a low-pass filter for improved RF rejection.

It is worth noting that an upgraded cable cannot solve or prevent every EMI RFI problem. Holding a live cellphone next to a condenser mic will usually create audible artifacts in the audio track, regardless of cable (or even microphone). Strong radio signals can couple directly into a microphone s circuit and or capsule. In such cases, the only solution is to remove all transmitters — whether Bluetooth, cell, or wifi — from the studio.

Genuine, Original Gotham GAC-4 1

We are using genuine Gotham cable, manufactured in Switzerland. This is the original 11001 formulation, with 96 strands of copper per signal conductor — not the inferior v2 cable with 7 strands per conductor. Our cable has two complete (100% coverage) woven copper shields for superior EMI RFI filtering; the cheap stuff sold on Ebay replaces one of those shields with a piece of metallized tape. Our cable has lower capacitance too (42pF m for a single conductor vs 55pF m).

Other brands are promoting their lower-cost GAC 4 cables, but those are made with the v2 version of GAC-4 cable, which is thicker, less flexible, less resistant to EMI RFI, and has higher capacitance.
